mum!

Well, so it's Mother's Day Eve, here at the Sayo Niedzwiecki household. I've been mentally whining all day because I was really sick last night, up from about 1 am till 4 am, and then Phet is away in KL, and of course Princess woke up at 5:30 am. Gablorgh. That's gaelic for "crap". Still, y'know, this is what it's all about when you're a Mum. You suck it up and take one for the team and try not to freak out when your kid insists on showering from the spout instead of the shower when you just know he's not going to get his neck clean.

But the point of hopping online when Seung Yi's asleep and I could be curled up in a fetal position beside her is not to complain. No! Au contraire. It's to send out a big hip hollering cheer to my Mum on Mother's Day.

People who know us well like, say, Dad and Emma and Phet and Jake, know that Mum and I are insanely similar in many of our mannerisms and our general approach to life. The biggest differences I can see between us is that a) people don't know my hair is also grey, and b) I like to eat leftovers. Oh, and Mum might also tell you that c) I let babies play with electrical cords and darts. But that's only when there aren't real toys around! Very often Mum and I come up with exactly the same idea at the same time, and start to say something to each other only to realize that we really needn't bother actually speaking aloud. Some people might say that they fear turning into their mother, but for the record I for one am all for it. My Mum is a truly wonderful mother, a great mother-in-law, and a SPECTACULAR grandmother. She is also a kind and thoughtful mother-of-a-mum. By that I mean that since I've had kids she's always been super supportive of me, how I am raising Ji and Seung Yi, and she often gives me a much-appreciated pat on the back by saying she thinks I'm a good Mum. Coming from her that means a great deal.

So, today, on Mother's Day, a big cheer of appreciation for you, Mum. I love you very, very much and can't wait to see you in June!
