those crazy ontario schoolz

There is some weird stuff going down in Ontario schools these days. Like:

- You shouldn't have assignments like: 30% test, 40% paper, 30% exam;
- You need to have these weird flexible systems so that you end up weighting the later assignments more heavily, and you're supposed to consider their most consistent marks.  So, if they randomly do badly on one assignment, that shouldn't really pull their marks down;
- You can't give marks for simply completing things, you can only give marks for things you evaluate - ie, can't give marks for finishing homework, only if you evaluate everyone's homework.
- You can't deduct late marks (????!!!!), and you're supposed to accept work until you've handed back the assignment.
- You can't give the same mark to a whole group, you have to have individual marks for each group member.

It's all just so bananas.

Ji is doing well, he had a great day at daycare on monday.  Tammy was saying 'you must have to keep a careful eye on him, hm?', me - yes.  Tammy - Last week he went in to wash his hands and I stepped out for a minute, and when I came in he had put soap all over his hair and was pretending to shampoo and said "I put soap in my hair because it looks so ridiculous!".  What a twit!

The aunts were laughing because last night I taught him to say 'no problem' in Chinese and sent him in to say it to them.  Aunt took him for a walk to Loblaws yesterday and bought him freezies, and then later on his suggestion we all went to Chinatown.  On the way back - "why we no eat noodles in Chinatown, Gu Pa?"  [Toronto-March-2004]
