baby keep smiling

Tired, very tired I am. Keep thinking of Gramma Stella singing, "How tired I am, how tired I am, nobody cares, or gives a damn...I sold my shoes for a bottle of booze, nobody knows how dry I am..." It has been a long week and a long day today. I got sick on Friday with an evil flu -- complete with aching sore throat, deathly sore bones and joints, upset stomach and rotten headache. We went to the clinic on Saturday and I got me some meds, but Ji got his shots the same day and we spent the next two days coping with him whinging and whining and hobbling around like a miniature gimp. Seung Yi still hadn't cottoned on to the whole 'we're not in Canada anymore' thing and was still waking up from about 3 am to 5 am and then ready to start her day at 6 am. Both Phet and I were zombified. Then, just for a treat, we decided to get Seung Yi's shots yesterday (already postponed for a month, bad us) and so she was ga-rumpy last night and today, and then had a very weird burst of energy this evening which kept her awake until 9:30 pm even though she hadn't slept all day! Nutsola.

During the energy burst, she was a total doll. Hung out on her bed with me -- yes, she's now officially a member of the Sayo mat sleeping children association since she fell off the big bed the other day is getting big enough for her own space -- and played and played and played until she literally fell over in a heap. She is 'crawling' backwards now, ie pushing herself backwards with her belly still on the floor. She can pretty much go across the whole room that way. She is also up on her knees on her tummy now, but hasn't figured out how to move forward by moving her hands. Instead, she does a plank, getting everything off the floor except her toes and her hands, and then she holds that for about 5 seconds, and then slowly face plants into the mat, and then pushes her legs and mooshes her forehead into the mat until she slowly moves foward. It's pretty hilarious to watch.

Evidence that all the crawling claims are true:

Note that her adorable costume is courtesy of Uncle Sing and Auntie Lisa. Jaunty and practical for the warm weather we're "enjoying". For all you folks suffering from the lack of sun in Toronto, it went up to 40' celsius here over the weekend. We walked 12 minutes to Khan Market, got a drink and came back home and were all purple-faced and ready to keel over. Luckily, however, our house is awesome and doesn't get hot. During the winter this wasn't such a great feature, the whole no-sunshine business, but now we rule. We still haven't put on the air con if you can believe that.

Here's one more photo, showing off Seung Yi's multi-tasking skills. She's preparing to diaper herself: she's got the vaseline ready to go, pulling it along with her leggies, and she's pulling out a wipie with her hands. Way to go! Note that in this pic her new shirt is from Phet's colleagues at IDRC. Thanks, y'all!

Lastly, a bonus treat for everyone. It's a little video I like to call AHHHHHHH.
