pyscho crazy cute baby
Ok: officially the WORST evening with Seung Yi thus far. Screaming from 5:00 to 9:30 pm unless my boob was in her mouth. Phet is in Ottawa at meetings, so we're up here on our own. Boo. Not fun, especially after a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend, featuring my family and Phet's family, stellar sunny weather, massive amounts of food intake, and visits with Phil, Theresa, Hannah and Sarah. And Sam 'n Astra. And of course Brian 'n Elizabeth!
The very first night that everyone left I was, of course, a little bit paranoid of something narsty in the woodshed and things going bump in the night. I tried to go online at midnight and found that there was no dial tone. Felt like something out of one of the spooky books Ji's obsessed with these days. Still no phones in the morning. I got Ji to school (on time!) and while he was getting out of the car, Aunt Theresa pulled up beside me. We rolled down our windows, and she said, "Your mother's terribly worried about you!" "I was just on my way to your house to call Bell," I said. So, off to the Dwyer's for coffee and a free phone. Called Bell and they said they were experiencing "extremely serious delays in responding to calls" but somehow I got a live human after just one minute of waiting. Good ol' Bell. Anyways, dude tells me at first it must be just my phone, but then discovers they're out throughout the neighbourhood. He tells me, "They'll be back on by 22:00 hours. I think that's eight o'clock or something."
That evening proves to be fine, but yesterday was horrendous. Ji and I had a great day; it was rainy but we went out hiking in the forest with Seung Yi in the Baby Bjorn, and me in Dad's lumberjack shirt and Mum's giant rubber boots. Ahh, the Classy Canadian Lady in her natural habitat. We kept out eyes out for deer, cause I'd seen deer twice that week already, but not luck. Then we went back home and the reign of terror began. Snuggling? Wah! Looking at light? Wah! Changing bum? WAH! Going into Baby Bjorn? WAH WAH! Walking around? WAH WAH WAH! Bouncing and singing? WAAAAAHHHHH....
When she finally closed her mouth for a few minutes I asked Ji, "So, how many kids are you going to have?" I expected him to say none, but instead he said, "One million." "Well, what are you going to do when they scream like this?" I asked, "Don't you think you'll get tired?" "Oh," he said, nonchalantly, "I'll leave them with their Mum and get her to call me when they're grown up, and then I'll come back." If only I'd ticked that option on the form for motherhood!
Today, Seung Yi was on best (ie sleepingest) behaviour so far. In the absence of her being crazy, the weather has gone bananas. Wild windstorm at night, then a big droppy rainstorm in the morning, brilliantly sunny bits and shocking blue skies and giant waves in Sauble on the way to school, then a lovely calm sunny hour back at home, followed by a SNOW STORM. People here probably would call them "flurries" cause they're not officially staying snowy on the ground, but the wind is a-whipping around our house. Luckily, the house is as snug as can be. I have yet to find a place where the wind whistles aside from the fireplace. With a few logs on, we're as toasty as can be. But we've got to go get Ji in an hour. Meh...
Tomorrow I'm planning on driving to Toronto FIRST THING in the morning to take advantage of Princess's hours of happiness. It's Aunt Cathie's wild 50th birthday party on Saturday, and then we're off to celebrate Aaron's wedding down in North Carolina. On the schedule: major biscuit and pulled pork eating, and UNC Chapel Hill warm up suit-buying for the whole family. We're coming back fat and ensconced in baby blue.
