Guess whose tooth has popped out? That's right: Ji's!

On Monday the gum looked very white, and then yesterday I felt it after work and lo and behold, there was a teeny tiny moonsliver of tooth! So far the teething doesn't seem so bad for Ji. He was a little bit cranky on Sunday, but not too bad, and otherwise seems ok, ie no red face, no sore bum, etc. I think the other tooth will pop soon (these are both the bottom teeth).

Ji is turning very speedily into a little person, not just a slug anymore. He is now patting and bonking stuff, he likes to look at his hands and turns them around to examine them, he likes to test the flavour of different fingers. He is also starting to move faster. He can't crawl yet, but he has started to do sequences of rolls, ie roll-roll-roll-squirm-roll which can get him quite a far distance! It's so sudden. This morning he was beside me in the car seat while I was washing dishes, and gave a great squirm and was halfway out of the car seat! From now on he's going to be a handful, that's for sure. Oy vey.

He is also making a much wider variety of sounds, used to be mostly 'aahhhs' and burbles, and now he's got these complicated sounds with 'th', 'gl' and other exciting consonant combinations showing up. He is also seeming to start making sounds more to suit the occasion. He still likes to have a shouting-for-fun spell, but for example, he fell over and scared himself, cried a bit, calmed down and then made kind of "oh did you see what happened to me, it was sad and scary" noises while he lay next to me.

We are off to Luang Prabang tomorrow - last minute request for me to write a story for UNV headquarters about the beneficiary of one of our UNVs. So I'll go interview a tailoring apprentice in LP. Should be fun and will give me a good excuse to shop. Khampun, Ji, and Khampun's son Tong are going to go along for the ride. [Ji Hong-29-May-2002]
