blah blah blah phet's out of town forever...

Ok, so I'm kind of tired and grumpy because Phet has been out of town for almost two weeks and it is begining to get kind of old. Aside from Phet being Phet and all, I also really miss having someone who will whisk the kids off when I need to crash and burn for a half hour after a really long day. Come home, Phet! And of course Seung Yi and Ji miss their Pa alot. Every day Seung Yi and I have to have a long, long conversation about where Pa is and how he flew ("bbbpppp!") on the airplane to get there. Ji, meanwhile, is languishing without having Phet there as his audience for endless recountings of Avatar and Tick episodes. Poor guy. All they've got is good old me.

Mind you, we have made a pretty good go of it. This weekend was really nice aside from the fact that I had ongoing minor stomach ups and downs (I dunno, maybe something about the 40' plus weather affecting everyone's food). On Saturday we were up early and then off to swimming lessons. Ji has once again gotten over his water phobia and is eager to plunge in and practice his strokes - if not to actually "listen" to his instructors. Who are remarkably patient. While he swam Seung Yi and I walked up and down and up and down and up and down a flight of stairs. She kept telling me to "Moof!" away when I got to close to her and tried to spot her in case she fell and smashed her head in. She's pretty funny; all of her words that require a 'g' 'b' or 'p' or hard 'c' sound at the begining all come out with 'd' instead. So when she wants me to go somewhere she grabs my hand and says, "Dum!" Or, if she wants to go get a toy and play she says, "Doh! Doy! Day!" She's got excellent pronunciation, however, for the words "no," "home," and "John".

After Ji's class we went to watch some basketball games at gym, which was a lot of fun. Seung Yi was definitely the centre of attention. Then it was Seung Yi's turn to swim and boy did she have a great time. Today we were invited for brunch at our friends' house (yes, I do have a couple of friends...amazing, I know...even I find it odd!). They have a son in gr 1 and a daughter in gr 2 and they also invited over two other couples with kids Ji's age. So Ji had a grand old time hypering himself up and running around like a fool while Seung Yi pretended to be mute and tentative and was very well behaved indeed. Ji made lovely chocolate covered strawberries for the brunch - and then the adults ate them all and he missed out on getting a single one! Rough life but he took it in stride. After brunch we all headed over to the American club across the street. Pretty nice, but sort of disturbing: it literally looks like a ball park and a motel with a pool were sliced out of nowheresville USA and dropped down in the middle of Delhi. They serve incredibly yummy American food - waiters zipping around the pool bearing plates of scrumptious burgers, onion rings, chicken strips, the whole shebang. Hm, Adam, maybe you need to bring the burger quest to India. Wouldn't that be interesting? The Best Beef Burgers In The Land Where You Shouldn't Eat Beef you could call it.

Anyways, the really fun thing about the American club was that we went swimming and it was the first time SY tried on arm floaties and she totally loved them. After the first time she jumped into the pool she instantly said "Moof!" when I tried to catch her as she jumped. She's a total water baby and was so cute to watch as she figured out that she was all by herself in the water and she could twist this way and that and float and WOW!

These photos are a couple of weeks old (notice they include my husband) but they'll serve the purpose of illustrating this post:
