what to bring
Bring yourself. If you bring yourself, you can also bring your husband. Or wife, as the case may be. If you are unmarried, you may bring your partner or someone else who is cool and fun (so long as your partner, if you have one, does not object to you bringing this other cool and fun person with you). If you know more than one cool and fun person, you may bring a group of cool and fun people with you (so long as they pinkie promise not go off in the woods and have fun only with themselves).
If you have a child, you may bring your child with you (so long as your child agrees to remain calm when the collected uncles in attendance attempt to terrify it with any and/or all of the following:
a. stories of how their finger(s) got cut off;
b. hefting throws face-first into the beach sand because the uncle 'forgot' which direction the water lay in;
c. excessive drinking, belching, vomiting, disorientation, discombobulation, knock knock jokes, recited verse (esp. cautionary tales, e.g. "There was a boy whose name was Jim...");
d. repeated offers of delicious-sounding yet not-so-tasty "hurts donuts";
e. any invitation to partake in any behaviour that will cause lasting grief, anguish, embarassment, shame, fear, or anger from said child's mother.
**Please note that section "e" is applicable even if the child's father finds this type of behaviour acceptable and/or the child's father actively encourages the uncle(s) in their naughtiness through failure to intervene or by laughing at the antics of evil that the uncle(s) have inspired.
If you do not have a child coming along, LUCKY YOU. You may drink yourself into a stupor and then sleep in the next morning. Hm, wait a minute. Maybe we can have a special activity for you! Here you go: if you do not have a child in attendance, you may volunteer to be the special PARENTS' ASSISTANT for the weekend. It will be your special assignment to provide child care for all children in attendance between the hours of 5 am and 11 am. You will liaise with a group of similarly unburdened folks and you will receive your very own nametags. Write to us now so you do not lose this exciting opportunity.
You may also want to bring along: a tent, sleeping bag(s), beach apparel, fishing gear, hiking boots, music, and anything else that will make the weekend more enjoyable.
If you would like to bring a gift other than your presence at the party, we'd love seeds, bulbs, shrubs, trees, plants, etc. [29-May-2005]
